This position is for a Steel Drum Band Instructor emphasis on percussion and winds. This position is for a fulltime Steelband Director with emphasis on playing the Steelpan.
The purpose of this course is to expose students to the Steelpan, the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago. Students in this program will go from Beginning, to Intermediate, to Advanced Steel Band during their school progression. A qualified candidate for this position will have knowledge of the steelpan, experience running large ensemble rehearsals, and knows Steelband history and culture. It is encouraged that the candidate has drum set playing abilities, as the director leads the ensemble from the drum set. Raa Steel has a history of playing a diverse range of literature at concerts both on and off campus, something that will be expected of a qualified candidate.
The purpose of this course is to enable students to develop fundamental skills on wind or percussion instruments through the refinement and performance of middle/junior high band literature.
