The OB Sonographer III performs advanced and high-risk OB/GYN ultrasound examinations under the direction of Maternal Fetal Medicine (MFM) and GYN Imaging physicians while adhering to established protocols and quality standards. This role is responsible for obtaining pertinent clinical history, correlating that information with the indicated examination, and using independent judgment to acquire all required images, anatomical documentation, and measurements. The Sonographer must demonstrate expert knowledge of fetal and gynecologic anatomy, physiology, pathology, and sonographic principles, and is expected to deliver compassionate, patient-centered care aligned with USFTGP's mission, vision, and values. The OB Sonographer III routinely performs specialized OB and GYN procedures- including Level II fetal anatomy, fetal echocardiography, Doppler studies, saline infusion sonohysterography, and ultrasound guidance for invasive procedures-and supports a collaborative, respectful work environment. Other duties may be assigned as needed.

Technical Program accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography program

Certification

American Registry Diagnostic Medical Sonography ARDMS OB/GYN

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Work Experience and Additional Information

Minimum of 3 years of OB/GYN sonography experience required. Must demonstrate current knowledge and level of expertise generally obtained through national certification required to perform high-risk OB/GYN sonograms.

Technical Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Comprehensive understanding of maternal-fetal anatomy, gynecological structures, fetal development milestones, Doppler physics, and high-risk obstetrical imaging protocols.

• Ability to perform advanced studies, including fetal echocardiography, Level II anatomy scans, nuchal translucency, ultrasound-guided procedures, and GYN contrast or infusion studies.

• Ability to independently determine required images, measurements, and documentation based on patient presentation, clinical history, and physician directives.

• Ability to communicate clearly, compassionately, and professionally with patients, providers, coworkers, and external customers in emotionally sensitive or high-stress clinical scenarios.

• Technical Proficiency with Ultrasound Equipment

• Skilled in operating advanced ultrasound systems, image optimization, documentation software, and exam protocols for both OB and GYN imaging.
