School custodians are responsible for maintaining a safe, clean, and orderly environment for students and staff, acting as key stewards of the school facility. Essential duties include cleaning classrooms and restrooms, sanitizing surfaces, managing waste, performing minor maintenance, and securing the building daily. Cleaning, disinfecting, and restocking soap and paper supplies. Dusting, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming floors.
Trash Removal: Emptying trash receptacles and recycling in all classrooms, offices, and common areas.
Surfaces & Furniture: Cleaning whiteboards, tables, desks, and windows.
Sanitizing showers, lockers, and floors. Opening the building in the morning and locking windows/doors at night. Reporting or fixing maintenance issues such as broken lights, furniture, or hazards. Setting up chairs and tables for school events and assemblies. Responding immediately to spills or accidents to keep, areas safe and dry.
Periodic & Environmental Tasks Floors: Stripping, waxing, and polishing hard floors and deep cleaning/shampooing carpets. Assisting with trash removal on grounds, and potentially snow/ice removal on walkways.
Equipment Ensuring cleaning equipment (vacuums, scrubbers) is maintained, cleaned, and safe to use.
